~3.5 stars~ This was a new-to-me author, and this book was full of sweet, gooey, fluffy goodness. Think Cardeno C, people. Within seconds of receiving devastating news about his guitar-playing arm, Ryan comes to visit Carter. He lashes out in anger, and Ryan leaves the room. Carter figures out who Ryan was pretty soon after, and feels terrible. The make up scene was delicious. I'm not gonna focus on the story, because it was a good story with good relationship development. This wasn't insta-love, but it was insta-something. Maybe connection? The author did a good job with making me feel their connection to each other, even in the sugary-sweet, eye rolling moments. This is only the author's second book, according to GR, and there wasn't a "polished" quality to the writing. Better content editing was needed because the author felt the need to explain a lot of things to the readers when we're pretty sharp and would pick up on that. Example: "She had attempted to set me up on two disastrous blind dates until I threatened to quit speaking to her. She knew it was all bluster though, they were like family to me and I knew how fortunate I was to have them in my life." I didn't need that second sentence. Based on their interactions, it was clear they were close. I don't need the added commentary. There was a fair amount of that in the book. Additionally, this author is a comma whore. There were extra commas everywhere, when a period or semicolon was needed, and it drove the grammar Nazi in me insane. Let's talk about the dialogue. This is where the sugary gooeyness comes in. Most of the dialogue was good. But about once a chapter, there's a line that is so OTT cheesy that I had to highlight. Here are some examples for the good folks of GR: "Why don't we go back to your place and you can show me why they call you Superman, The Man of Steel." And the time I felt like I was in a Harlequin book: "I want you to cuff me to this pole and use me for your pleasure." "[...] I promise, we will both experience pleasure tonight." "Let me inside so I can feel your smooth walls." I had to be sure that he was feeling the same way I was and to do that I needed to be able to look into his eyes. After all, they were the windows to his soul. Gag-inducing stuff for my personal tastes. But, I want to be fair - most of the dialogue WASN'T like that. I enjoyed it overall, hence the 3.5 stars. The story kept me engaged, and I really dug the character development and relationship building. This author could just really use a good editor and some good betas. I liked the writing and the story enough to go back and read Book 1. If you go into this thinking of it like a Cardeno C-level of writing, or perhaps even Conquest, then I think you'll enjoy this. Fluff has its place, and sometimes you're just in the mood for some sweetness. If so, give this one a go. And I must mention the cover. Author nailed it with her choice of cover artist!

Similar to first book. These have a very Made Marion feel (although I'm not sure which came first) -- thankfully the adoring parents aren't nearly as awkwardly oversexual as the grandmother/aunts in that series. Carter and Ryan were very sweet -- the bad guy was sort of inexplicably evil. Again, this is a surface treatment but fluffy and tons (tons, skipped scenes) of sex. I do love how Carter and Caleb call each other Bubby. 💗

Yummy book with a nice story. It's the second of a series but it can be read as a stand alone (in fact, I haven't read the first one and didn't feel I was missing anything). Both books available through Kindle Unlimited (10/7/16) The series is about the Greene brothers. This one is about Carter, the musician of the family and identical twin to Caleb (the MC of the first book). Carter is a mix of sweet and kinky and delicious all in one package. Oh, forgot to mention that he has a thing for Carter in his sexy underwear. :) The two of them have a rough start due to a misunderstanding but, after they talk things through, the fireworks between these two light-up the whole Chicago sky. The book finishes with a HFN ending and a hook for the next book on the series. The third installment will have Landon, Carter's older brother and manager of his band, and Micah, the new head of security brought over to deal with the threats to Carter's life. A good read! Recommend.

Ryan did save his life, when no one else would go in. Carter's family is extremely thankful. Ryan has never had a family, it was only him and his grandpa, until he died, but he learns. Ryan and Carter have sparks that ignite when they get together. Neither man has ever felt that sizzle and connection. Their sexy times are fabulous, with sexy undies, role play, etc.... There are two main things to deal with; one is the homophobe at the firehouse, and second is the contract and a tour on the road for Carter. This is well written and holds our attention. We see love, fun and steadiness, plus hate, violence, and a shake-up. Very worthwhile. Highly recommended. ENJOY ! =======================

He spent most of his free time renovating the property he inherited while avoiding the whole dating scene. While out drinking with his best friend he sees Carter and his band preform and although the band is good he can't forget how Carter treated. When Caleb ask for his help with a calendar for the gay youth center he agrees and comes face with Ryan. Carter can't stop thinking about Ryan so he ask him out on a date. This was a really good read that I wanted more of this book was more erotic than the first one but I felt that this book left off on a cliffhanger. Carter has been a kinky manwhore never having any real relationship with the guys he hooks up with and his favorite thing besides threesomes is being tied up or handcuffed. Ryan who has never had a threesome wanted to try it for Carter he couldn't do it and Carter realized that he couldn't do either. I listened to this book as well as read it and I loved it. I really like the way Michael Pauley tells the story of a book. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book. I want to find out what's going on with Landon and Micah.

Sweetness! This book was what I would call comfort reading. It was really sweet and a lot of fun. For me this was far and away better than the first book. However, I think it's beneficial to read the first book so you know all the characters. This book is about Ryan the firefighter and Carter the musician. Now THIS is how you write a beautiful love story. Author Annabella Michaels truly outdid herself with Carter’s and Ryan’s story, the second book in the Souls of Chicago series. I simply don’t think I’ll be able to write a review worthy of doing it justice in conveying how much I enjoyed – no loved – this story. I can’t recall a book I’ve read where I felt as one with the characters – it goes beyond good writing and brilliant characterization – and this book has immeasurable amounts of both of these elements – it has the steamiest, most loving, erotic, passionate, and emotionally driven sex scenes; authenticity; thorough, engaging, and seamlessly threaded story lines; romance; chemistry; and just…sigh. I’m so in love with Carter and Ryan. It doesn’t get much better than this…but then, I may have thought the same after Caleb and Gio, so the anxious wait for Landon’s and Micah’s story awaits. I have a feeling THAT one will be even hotter yet. _____________________________________ I don’t know how long we stood there, but he held me until I was cried out and all that remained was my gentle hiccups as I calmed back down. Carter was exactly what I had needed. He was my comfort. I took a deep breath and wiped by eyes with trembling hands. “Thank you. I’m sorry about that, but thank you.” His eyes were filled with worry, but he gave me a beautiful smile that made my heart melt. “Don’t ever apologize for coming to me if you need something. I want to be that person for you.” ____________________________________ “Nothing can scare me away, but if you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to have to drag you away from here and bury myself inside of you so deep that you won’t know where I end and you begin.” ________________________________ I know it was stupid, but I needed to know that when he left, he would be carrying evidence of our love with him. While no one else would even know it was there, Carter would know and that was what mattered to me. Carter seemed to understand that need and he clung to me, his eyes never leaving mine as I filled him. More was said between us in that moment than in any other time we had spoken actual words and we stopped existing as two separate people: our souls merging into one.

They have a tough go of things when Carter’s music takes him on tour but where other relationships fail due to distance, Ryan and Carter are too wonderful as individual selves to accept distance to be a killer. This is a very sweet story. I shed a tear or two but it was mainly a sexy romance. Lots of sex… kinky creative sex. I fell in love with the Greene family in book one and just fell harder for them in this one. The Greene twins seem to have a thing for finding men with no family so bringing them into the fold is effortless. There’s very little conflict or angst in this story. It’s a relaxing romance that warms you through and through.

The book opens with Carter's hospitalisation and the sequelae from the fire which includes injury to his arm and the potential loss of his ability to play guitar. We see his turmoil at the news and as a result him treating Ryan horribly when he comes to visit. The book builds from that start to the men developing a relationship. The story arc includes Carter's imminent music stardom and the absences required as a result. We are invited to feel the anxiety and frustration of the pair at the obstacles created to their relationship. Overall, a sweet, low angst book worthy of a read. I found the same issues in this that I experienced in the other. Something about the pacing of the narrative and the writing style hampers the true enjoyment of the book. The premise is lovely and the character development is strong. The secondary characters are well developed and set up future instalments in the series. There is tons of sex but here again, there was something almost methodical about checking the "sultry/ kinky" boxes. I wasn't totally convinced of the heat. I will definitely read subsequent books but I hope there are tweaks to plotting, pacing and the grammar errors to push this up the star chain a bit. 3 underachieving stars.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I didn't think I would enjoy this book as much I did the first book in this series but I did. The chemistry between Ryan and Carter was believable. I love the Greene family. They are the loud but caring family. I like how Ryan was adopted into Carter's family without any hesitation. I wish there was a novella on Kevin and his boyfriend because Kevin needs his own story. I can't wait to read book 3.

God, he is completely gorgeous and charming. I’m sure I have a hole in my lip from biting it so hard while reading. Both these men try desperately to forget about each other. Why fight an attraction like they have? I was thinking seriously get it on already. Yep, I was chanting these two beautiful souls along. You never know what is around the corner. Life throws things at you and it can all change in the blink of an eye. Carter and Ryan both have some challenges to overcome. The one thing that they can both count on his family. Family that is born from love not just blood. Music, love, and the hottest sex make this story an exceptionally read.

I'm enjoying this series so far. We met Carter in the last book because he's Caleb's twin brother and at the end of that one he was injured in the fire at Gio's restaurant. Enter Ryan, the firefighter who Caleb managed to convince to go back in and save his brother. So now we start this book with Carter in the hospital treating Ryan like a fan-boy and dismissing him without realizing he's the fireman who saved him. Interesting. I love Michael Pauley, clear voice and enjoyable to listen to. Great way to have my favorite characters come to life. If you're new to Audio this is definitely the one for you. Carter and Ryan and definitely different from the couple in book one, in the best way. I feel in love with Carter from before and couldn't wait to see how his story ended! Loved the music scenes and the band mates! A few twist I didn't see coming too. Each book adds to the universe and I can't wait for the next!
