Ehhhh. It was just... Kinda blah. The heroine was seriously bitchy and by the time she stopped being a complete pain I was over it and didn't care if they had a HEA. I mean honestly. Why do women do that crap? You like him? Be nice. You don't? Tell him to f off. This whole I like you but I'm going to play hard to get crap is for 14 year olds not 30 year old pudgy chicks who've been around the block more times than an ice cream truck. 3.5 stars I liked the start to this new series by Ms. Kyle and Ms. Maddix. It hits all the usual trope highlights (possessive alpha, instalove, a smattering of danger) and kicks it up a notch. Things aren’t quite so insta, which I appreciated even if there’s an immediate connection established. Sex is the payoff, not just random beats to fill the story and I really liked seeing a heroine who wasn’t always the damsel in distress. It could have done with a little more time developing their relation 3.5 stars I liked the start to this new series by Ms. Kyle and Ms. Maddix. If you love shifters with some humor and heart, I’d recommend this.

I'm always on the lookout for a crazy hot and fun paranormal romance and this one was one of many that were recommended to me. At first glance, the cover... YES! I can see that guy tearing up some sheets! Even the blurb was appealing. However, while this was a bit of fun, it was far from hot. There was no sex until almost the end of the book. What?! I'm a grown up and I'm quite okay with hot sex in my books. Give me some!

Celia Kyle is a favorite of mine, but this was my first read by Marina Maddix. The writing flowed pretty smoothly, and it wasn't outright obvious who was writing, which is a good thing. Not bad. I liked this enough to try the next book. 3.5 stars

I absolutely loved it... 'Real Men Howl' is the first book in the new Real Men Shift series of paranormal romances by two best-selling and seriously good authors. Celia Kyle is one of my all-time favourites, and continuing their eminently successful collaboration, another of my go-to authors, Marina Maddix, and I was completely hooked and absorbed in the story from page one. Unsurprisingly, given the authors, this stand alone romance with more than a hint of thriller and intrigue is full of sizzling chemistry although it takes a while to get to the steamy bits, but when it does it's seriously hot, in more ways than one. Mason Blackwood, Alpha of the Blackwood Pack, is a werewolf on the edge of going feral and needs to find his mate before it's too late. His bloodthirsty wolf is already taking over and it's all he can do to control, or more frequently, not control, the rage within that's only getting worse. He's more or less resigned to his fate although he refuses to give up and keeps fighting it, but he has little or no hope until the day the Pack Healer and local Vet, Dr Drew Cooper, turns up at the Pack House smelling of... something wonderful... Feisty human Lucy Morgan was born in small town Georgia, Ashtown to be exact, but she left ten years ago and never thought she'd set foot in the place again. How wrong can she be? Life has thrown her one miserable curve ball after another until she's left with no choice. She still owns her parents' house there and returns to a town that isn't quite as she left it thanks to Hipstermania and the glut of oblivious tourists. Seeing one such idiot about the run over a little boy, Lucy races into the road to rescue him and gets bitten for her trouble but she's not overly concerned about it... until his parents take her to get medical treatment.... at the Vet's.... I'm not going to give spoilers about this absolutely terrific and laugh out loud funny romance, with more than a hint of mystery and intrigue between it's covers as well as some bad guy action which brings the last decade full circle for both Mason and Lucy. There are some wonderful, off the wall characters in this book although most are only mentioned in passing, like the guy with flowers in his beard, Violet Beauregard, the owner of 'Beans' coffee shop, Diner owner Agnes Dickey and her husband Arthur along with others. I loved the hunkalicious and seriously Alpha but completely besotted Mason who'll do anything to keep Lucy as his mate, and the totally independent no-nonsense Lucy who stands up to him at every turn and won't let him get away with anything. The ever talking Charlie and his little friend Danny were endearing, but I did wonder if he ever stopped talking long enough to breathe, and by far the most intriguing character of all isn't actually a human, or even part human. She's a cat, named Ghost Kitty by the six year old Charlie, who for no apparent reason keeps appearing in all the places Lucy goes and has a more than lucky escape when... No, no spoilers, you'll just have to read it for yourselves. I absolutely loved this book and could happily go on and on about it for hours, but I won't. I'd give 'Real Men Howl' a 5 star rating, but it needs an epilogue and I've knocked off half a star, so it gets a well earned 4.5 stars. I want to know if Lucy's grandmother comes to live in Ashtown, and why Ghost Kitty appears to be following Lucy around, but it's still a terrifically good story that has a place on my list of books to save if the house was burning down and will no doubt become a permanent resident on my 'read again' list.

Three and a half I admit I’ve read several books by Celia Kyle as I love her irreverent sense of humour but her collaboration with Marina Maddix is new to me. I liked Lucy and loved that she didn’t just roll over for Mason. In fact her refusal to comply with his wishes added a lot to the initial fun. Mason isn’t all chest beating though and he really sets out to woo the woman who he knows is worth any amount of trouble. Add in cute pups, mysterious kitties and you just know that there’s no shortage of sweet monents. It’s not just a romance though as Mason has an enemy playing tricks which brings the very unwelcome council knocking at his Packs door. Still with Lucy needing all his attention how will Mason get everything sorted ? Perhaps he just might need his Mate more than he realises ? I’m not a huge fan of fated Mates but these authors made this work. If blunt there was something about the first bite that didn’t make sense but this is fiction not science so I’m not examining it too closely. I did feel Lucy’s history was a little convenient and perhaps too rushed but this is a shifter story and not a walk in the park so I’m happy that there was a happy ending. My first story from Mirina Maddix so I’m off to check out her back catalogue. This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

So I decided that this summer I was going to catch up on some of the books I have laying around, (it will take a lifetime) and try some that I've been wanting too. I really love Celia Kyle's books so I thought I'd try this finally find the time to read a few of her series that I've not tried. So I started off with her and Maddix's Real Men Shift series. I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed the whole series and can't wait to review the rest of the books for you. But for today let's talk about Read Me Howl. It's the first book in the series and really set the ton of it. I totally love Mason. He really pops off the pages for me. I want so badly for him to find his mate so he will be okay. Then when he does I'm not sure what I think right off the bat. On her own, I liked Lucy but with Mason...I didn't know. The good thing is that soon I saw how great these two are together and how much they really needed each other. Mason needs a woman who will stand by his side as an alpha mate but also in private be able to tell him how she feels. Lucy is that women. It makes them the perfect loving unit. Since I've never read Marina Maddix I don't know her voice so for me I felt Kyle's more. She has a wonderful way of writing funny characters. I will have to try a book by Maddix only so I have a better feel for her. I really think the authors did a great job on a story that is less than 200 pages. I didn't feel like I was missing anything and in fact, couldn't wait for the next one. Follow me on: https://www.facebook.com/RomancingThe... https://twitter.com/Romancingreader

Holy Craziness! This series is going to be so good, these Blackwood brothers got it going with their hotness. Lucy Morgan left her hometown of Ashton, Georgia 10 years ago after a terrible tragedy took her parents from her and she swore never to return, but very bad circumstances made her change those plans. When she returns to the quaint little Southern town she finds that a lot of things have changed since she was last there, but she has her mind set on making it work for herself until she saves Holy Craziness! When she returns to the quaint little Southern town she finds that a lot of things have changed since she was last there, but she has her mind set on making it work for herself until she saves a child from harm and her life is forever turned topsy turvy. Mason Blackwood the powerful Alpha of the Blackwood Pack and a Forest Ranger, has turned the little town of Ashwood into a tourist mecca, but his reign may be coming to an end very soon if he doesn't find his mate soon, not only his reign, but his existence too. See if he doesn't find her he will go feral which he is showing signs of already and will have to be put down. Then when his Healer and town Vet comes to inform him of a terrible accident in town he is hard put to not attack his friend. He realizes that his mate is in town and soon learns that his going feral is the least of his problems when he is confronted by the very outspoken and sassy BBW and she is human. Maybe it would be easier to go feral? I absolutely love Lucy's outspoken sassiness and don't take any crap attitude. Let's not forget Masons hot sexiness on a stick. This story will have you hooting and sweating to the end. I know I couldn't go to sleep last night without finishing it.

Going back to her childhood home was supposed to be cathartic and allow her to finally remember her parents without the overwhelming grief. Walking along the main street of town she see a little boy in the path of a car as he is only intent on saving the fat cat. She saves him but he panics and bites her which starts Lucy on a journey of discovering werewolves are real. There is so much more to the story but that beginning had me hooked as I had to know how Lucy handled everything and if Marcus would go feral. I would definitely recommend this book and hope I can continue with this series. As this powerhouse of a duo is awesome sauce. I voluntarily read an advance copy and have not been compensated in any way for this opinion.

I really liked this story. It packed a lot ... heroine's history, hero's pending doom, sweet little pups and kittens, pack politics... and of course hot, sexy love.... But it was instant love.... and felt rushed....but over all a really sweet love story that anyone could enjoy. I really liked this story. Mason was quickly losing control and was slowly going feral. If he turned feral his pack would have no choice but to kill him. The only thing that stood between him and death was a mate, if only he could find her. So when Mason meets Lucy, he knows he can't let her go but she just thinks he's bossy and irritating. Lucy is accidentally hurt and goes to her childhood home to recover. She's not expecting Mason to show up at her door to make sure she's alright. She's instantly attracted to him but assures him she's fine and shuts the door in his face. He's stunned because women usually fall at his feet, but not this time which amuses him a little. Lucy is awesome! Omg this woman is all snark, snarl and verbal jabs. She's clever, smart and funny. I loved her character so much. At first she does not like how alpha Mason is or how bossy he seems and she lets him know... all the time. It was hilarious because he's not used to anyone talking to him like that. He's not used to a female not giving into his charm and good looks right away either and Lucy resists him at every turn. Watching these two get to know one another and slowly realize that Lucy is quickly falling for Mason as much as Mason has already fallen for her was a lot of fun. There's also an enemy causing problems for Mason's pack which turns into a huge twist towards the end but it fit so well in this story. I love a good curve ball when done well and this was. Mason's pack mates are very welcoming, so nice and everyone is so happy that Mason found his mate and not just because not finding her would have meant a death sentence for him. The best secondary characters were definitely Charlie and Ghost. I really liked how rambunctious the kids or pups were and Ghost the cat was a great addition to the story. I had a good time with this book and Lucy had me smiling more times than I can count.

Lucy was a fantastic spanky heroine and Mason was a lovable hunk. Their relationship was fun and sweet, but unfortunately, there wasn't much steam or sizzle. I couldn't recover from my disbelief created by the huge plot hole concerning the death of Lucy's parents. I didn't DNF because the big reveal came at the end of the book. So I had a hard time believing that Mason and his pack didn't know who Lucy was when they met her as an adult. Mason ended up telling her the story quite some time after the fact. Also, I found it unbelievable that Lucy didn't have any issues around wolves. She spent years in therapy and was still afraid to go out in the woods. She still had nightmares about the wolf's eyes watching her during that horrible event. (hide spoiler)]

2.5-3 stars. Picked this up via Audible for a listen. For the most part this was a pretty good setup here. I liked how the supernatural world was built though it did seem a little on the rushed side. We have the classic “mate scenario” here with a lot of insta. For me, insta love/lust etc can be hit or miss but this story didn’t come across as ridiculous on my scale so kudos for that. I will say the FMC was a tad on the hostile/in denial side for a huge part of the story. I see a lot of stories 2.5-3 stars. Picked this up via Audible for a listen. I’m going to assume that there’s a fine line there when introducing the MC to a whole new supernatural world and some author’s just do it a little better than others, more naturally less forced antagonism almost. The characters didn’t strike me as shallow but looking back on the story I never really felt drawn to them or invested in their outcomes so I’m thinking maybe the story just really didn’t get enough time to really get to know them. All in all this was a decent listen. I’m wondering if some of my character apathy has to do with listening to the audio versus reading it myself...

This was a good shifter story. I really liked Lucy, she was a feisty character.

This book started out okay, you could tell that the concept was good. But it felt almost juvenile. It felt almost rushed, I feel like the author didn't elaborate enough on the workings of the pack or other characters and the mating, it was very rushed. The character Lucy I admit was funny at times if not shallow felling same with Mason. So the book starts out with Lucy coming home and trying to get her life on track, While Mason is trying to hold on to being alpha in his pack. Normal right? Right This book started out okay, you could tell that the concept was good. But it felt almost juvenile. The character Lucy I admit was funny at times if not shallow felling same with Mason. So the book starts out with Lucy coming home and trying to get her life on track, While Mason is trying to hold on to being alpha in his pack. Normal right? Right, and then it goes down hill. Lucy saves a little boy from getting hit by a car and that little boy bites her, to get treated the parents take her to a vet, because hey there wolfs that seems normal to them. Lucy however finds this weird..um hello yeah your in a vet...but hey lets go with it. So she stays and gets treated heads home thinking maybe she has rabies...um okay. Meanwhile, boom! Mason smells his mate on vet and shows up at her house. storms in and brings her dinner...which they ate together...STRANGERS....okay so now on to my biggest eye roll moment probably ever. He leaves and she is dreaming and OMG! this is it LMAO The urge to chase throbbed inside her, maybe even kill. If she’d been awake, she would have been appalled, but not in her dream world. In her land of make believe and exhaustion, the need to kill couldn’t have felt more natural. AND... So, so close to one another and he stepped forward again and again until mere inches separated them. Electricity seemed to crackle between them, a hint of how explosive it’d be when they finally gave in to their bodies’ needs. His fingertips brushed her and… An orgasm wrenched Lucy from slumber, eyes popping open, back arched, and mouth dropped open while she sucked in a heaving breath. Wave after wave of pleasure danced through her body, ecstasy consuming her from head to toe. Her muscles were no longer her own, toes curling and pussy clenching as she rode out the last hints of pleasure. I didn't leave much out ^ she was walking through woods and boom she is reaching out with her finger lol ET's got nothing on her..lol Okay so I digress Really the book was not awful it just was really juvenile in its perception I guess. Obviously I finished it so it had some good moments but unlike with some authors you get that a first book in the series has glitches you would still pick up the second. This is not that kind of first book for me. So that is my opinion on this book and you know what they say Opinions are like...noses everybody got one. But it usually has a couple holes in it.....

I enjoy Celia's books as always. Love the humor and the snark of the females without them being annoying. This is a book co-written with Marina Maddix who I am not too familiar with. I was easily able to tell who wrote which parts and thats probably because I've read everything Celia has written. :) I'm very familiar with her brand of fun and stories. I enjoyed Lucy's character very much. She really was a no-nonsense I will not roll over kinda gal. Reminds me a lot of Mia from her Grayslake seri I enjoy Celia's books as always. I enjoyed Lucy's character very much. She really was a no-nonsense I will not roll over kinda gal. Reminds me a lot of Mia from her Grayslake series. She writes really strong yet fiery female characters and Marina adds her own special flare. I've read the other book she co-wrote too. I enjoyed Mason because yes he's Alpha and demands fealty and his pack to tow the line but he's not overbearing like some...not completely. He's actually quite cute and sweet in regards to Lucy. Patient considering his wolf is going nuts not claiming his mate. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to the next. Spoiler AHEAD!!!!!! My only thing is with everything going on and everything being explained to Lucy that she just said ok bite me which that part didnt bother me. I thought there would be more to that process. The following chapter she was already bitten and totally fine and not dying and spending time with Mason. I was like wait what? Everything is ok already? They dont even mate mate til the very end so it was a little weird to shift gears that fast. Thats my only thing. Sorry for the spoiler.

I love these authors and their work. This book is no exception. If you like the weird quirky world of sexy paranormal romance, look no further! Mason is aware that he is rapidly heading to crazytown. If he doesn’t find his fated mate soon, he’ll lose what’s left of himself and never be able to continue to lead. It’s just his luck that Lucy ends up having some back luck of her own. She returns to town to put her mind at ease but finds herself bitten after rescuing a young boy from traffic. It’s just his luck that Lucy ends up having some back luck of her own. She returns to town to put her mind at ease but finds herself bitten after rescuing a young boy from traffic. The bite ends up being more trouble than she imagines, especially because it comes complete with an overbearing alpha named Mason. After Lucy is bitten, Mason immediately recognizes her as his mate. She, however, takes a bit of convincing. Oh, and there’s trauma to deal with, too, so that slows down the sexy time. Don’t worry, though – we eventually get there! There’s a lot of really entertaining characters that made me happy that Lucy may have found her unique place in this world. It also made me look forward to future installments in this series.

3.5 Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. So far I think this is the best of this duo’s books. Mason is a typical Alpha, although the threat of going feral without a mate is a nice added touch. I really liked Lucy. She was having none of this “werewolf” nonsense and refused to submit to the big man in town. She was snarky and funny. I think the only real issue was Lucy’s history wasn’t really explored until late (almost the end) and the fact that I think her first exposure to a change 3.5 Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. My shelf 'sex hell yeah' is often an important gauge to the novels I enjoy but sometimes a story is so engaging, so entertaining that I don't miss that over the top part of a storyline. This was one of them. The sex that does happen towards the end fits in perfectly with the novel's total plotline. The story was cute, fun, with intrigue and the minor interaction with the wolf pup 'Charlie' had me smiling often. My first read by Ms. Kyle and I am looking forward to more of her imagination in print My shelf 'sex hell yeah' is often an important gauge to the novels I enjoy but sometimes a story is so engaging, so entertaining that I don't miss that over the top part of a storyline. Four stars! It was a cute shifter story, and I liked the characters. Also, it had some good steamy parts. However, I felt the story line was too predictable.

Lucy, an out of work accountant returns to her small town to try and figure out her life. She’s sassy, funny and at a weird place in her life when she saves a kid from being run over by a car only to be bit by the rather aptly named Charlie. Mason, Alpha of the Blackwood Pack is slowly going feral without a mate. He knows he’s running out of time and when the pack doctor and town vet arrives on his doorstep wearing the scent of his mate he knows he’s not going to have to be put down. Mason, Alpha of the Blackwood Pack is slowly going feral without a mate. He knows he’s running out of time and when the pack doctor and town vet arrives on his doorstep wearing the scent of his mate he knows he’s not going to have to be put down. He takes it upon himself to infiltrate Lucy’s life in an amusing, if slightly stalkerish way. This had so much potential that was let down by a rushed plot and a heroin who really, and I mean really took things in her stride. Lucy’s parents were slaughtered by a wolf and when confronted by one on pack lands she barely reacts. She’s told she’s going to turn into a wolf and she heads off for ice cream and a spot of vintage shopping. It was almost jarring going from a near death bite on the leg to strolling down Main Street that if the characters weren’t so likeable and the writing style enjoyable I probably would have put this down. I did question why Mason didn’t know Lucy prior to her returning to her home town. Considering the events of her parents death should have been something the Pack Leader would have been involved in and the fact that she recalls going to school with his brothers early on it would have made sense to have him be a bit more sensitive to the obvious trauma she would have suffered. Besides a few glaring plot slips this was quick, quirky and written in a style that made you like the characters if not necessarily their choices.

3.5 Stars Easy Read. I like when the heroine is clueless of who or what the hero is; such as, in this story, hero being a werewolf. This story is about Lucy Morgan coming back to her hometown after being framed from embazzlement. Mason Blackwood and his family reside in her hometown; protecting the forest by day and night. Lucy's mom and dad killed when she was young. After being framed, she has nowhere else to go; except for her childhood home. Mason, Alpha of the Blackwood pack, needs a mate... 3.5 Stars Easy Read. Lucy's mom and dad killed when she was young. After being framed, she has nowhere else to go; except for her childhood home. Mason, Alpha of the Blackwood pack, needs a mate... otherwise he will get too "wild" and will need to be put down. Overall, the story was a quick read... Lucy gets bitten by a "child", her recovery from the bite, Mason finding his mate but not able to tell her the truth yet, who is starting the fires?, the threat???.... The synopsis creates this big idea that someone is after Lucy, which they are, but we are never really given a big scene. When Mason and Lucy are faced head to head with the threat, it is over in like 4 pages. Not really anything to go home and talk about. HA. Anyway, pretty good, Held my attention and flowed effortlessly. Just not much depth. Dual POV.
