Pique Dame Alexander Pushkin
Alexander Pushkin is among the most important Russian authors and is adored in his motherland, not unlike Goethe in Germany. He is still not as popular on a global scale, mostly because a large part of his body of work consists of verse narratives that are almost impossible to translate. “Pique Dame” is one of his rare stories in prose. It revolves around the socially and politically changing world of the 18th century and the new archetype of the aspiring citizen. In front of this backdrop, a fantastical and romantic plot transpires, ambiguous as to whether the events are real or imagined.
