| Paul-Marie Verlaine (30 Mar 1844 – 8 Jan 1896) was a French poet associated with the Symbolist movement. He is claimed to be one of the biggest figures in French Symbolism. Verlaine graduated the Lycée Impérial Bonaparte and took up a civil service post afterwards. He started to write poetry when he was quite young, and was deeply influenced by the Parnassien movement.
