| Alfred Noyes was an English poet, short-story writer and playwright. He is best known for his ballads, "The Highwayman" and "The Barrel-Organ". He was born in 1880 and grew up in in Wolverhampton, England. His father was a grocer and a teacher and he taught Noyes Latin and Greek. When he was twenty-one he published his first collection of poems, The Loom Years. Alfred Noyes studied in Oxford, where he left before completing his degree. “Watchers of the Sky” is the first volume of a trilogy.
