A published lecture given at the Royal Institution (April 1884) by British novelist Walter Besant with the title Fiction as one of the Fine Arts. He expresses writing fiction should be regarded equal to the other arts such as; painting, music, sculpture, poetry and novelists as artists. The novelist Henry James writes an essay published in Longman's Magazine 4 (September 1884) to respond to the propositions given by Besant. James' response makes for an interesting discussion for anyone seeking to learn about writing in general.
